Frequently Asked Questions
How we make money, whether we test products ourselves, and what to do about an order.
Last updated
How do you make money?
Commission on referrals. When a reader buys through a link here, we receive a percentage from the retailer at no extra cost to the reader. That is our entire revenue model: no advertising, no paid placements, no sponsored reviews.
Does that mean the reviews are biased?
It means you should read them knowing we have a financial interest, which is why we disclose it on every page carrying a link rather than only in the footer.
What we can tell you concretely: commission rates are not an input to our scoring, and several of the lowest-scored products on this site pay the highest rates. The methodology page sets out exactly how scores are constructed so you can check our reviews against it.
Do you test the products yourselves?
No, and we are explicit about that because a lot of sites imply otherwise.
We do not run laboratory assays, we do not verify purity, and we cannot confirm that a bottle’s contents match its label. What we do is trace each marketing claim to published human research and check whether the product’s dose is in the range that was actually studied. That process is described in full on the methodology page.
Do supplements work?
Some do, for some purposes, at doses that are often higher than what is in the product. Most of the category is ingredients with genuine research behind them included at a fraction of the studied dose.
That is the single most useful thing to know when reading a label: the presence of an ingredient tells you almost nothing. The dose is the whole question.
Can a supplement treat my condition?
No. Supplements are regulated as food, not medicine, and cannot lawfully be marketed as treating any disease. If a sales page implies that one does, that is a regulatory violation and a reasonable signal about the seller.
Speak to a doctor about a diagnosed condition. See our disclaimer for the full position.
I ordered something and need help with it
We cannot help with orders. We are a publisher and have no access to them. Your receipt tells you who the retailer was. Full details of who to contact are on our shipping and returns page.
Why are some pages on this site labelled “Advertisement”?
Because they are advertorials: pages written to promote a specific product, used as landing pages for paid advertising. They are labelled at the top so that you can tell them apart from editorial content. They are not indexed by search engines and you will not find them linked from the articles.
Can I republish your content?
Quote and link freely with attribution. Do not republish articles wholesale. See the terms of service.
Something here is wrong. Will you fix it?
Yes, and we would rather hear it than not. Email [email protected] with the page and the source that contradicts us. Corrections are noted with a revision date.
